Make Your Own Fat Ball To Feed The Birds

During the winter months, our garden birds require high-energy foods to help maintain their fat reserves to survive the frosty nights.

They love fat balls and you can even make your own! Follow our quick and easy fat balls recipe to keep the birds happy!

EQUIPMENT

Yoghurt Pot or Plastic Cup

String

Mixing Bowl

INGREDIENTS

Suet

Grated Cheese

Raisins

Mixed Bird Seed

Sunflower Hearts

STEP 1

Punch a small hole in the bottom of your yoghurt pot or plastic and carefully thread the string through the hole and tie a knot on the outside. Be sure to leave enough string to be able to tie around branch of a tree.

STEP 2

Cut the suet into small cubes and add to a large mixing bowl along with the other ingredients. Mix with your hands until you the mixture begins to hold together. Make sure the string runs through the middle of the mixture.

STEP 3

Fill your yoghurt pots or plastic cups with the fat ball mixture and place them in the fridge to set for a couple of hours.

STEP 4

Once set, cut away the container and hang in your garden – on a tree, shrub or your bird table.

A fun little thing to do that the kids and your garden birds will love!
