OUR MONTHLY GARDENING GUIDES
JOBS in may
Summer is just around the corner and our gardens are ‘hotting’ up!
Everything is now coming into bloom and there are lots of opportunities for you to be out in the garden. Keep your garden in tip-top shape, ready for you to enjoy the summer months!
FEED YOUR HUNGRY FLOWERS
Get the very best from your plants with a good feed. We recommend Miracle Gro All Purpose Soluble Plant Food, which contains the essential nutrients required for the optimum growth and flowering.
BEAUTIFUL BEDDING PLANTS
Whether it’s hanging baskets, containers or your beds and borders, add an abundance of bold and beautiful bedding plants to instantly transform your garden.
COTTAGE GARDEN CLASSICS
Planting a cluster of herbaceous perennials now such as Phlox, Penstemon and Rudbeckia will create the relaxed planting style of a cottage garden in time for summer, that not only looks fantastic but is easy to maintain too!
WATER FREQUENTLY
In the warm weather, it’s very important you check your plants on a daily basis and water them if the soil is dry. Our expert team recommend watering early in the morning and late evening during the height of summer!
KEEP WEEDING
Your precious plants shouldn’t have to compete for water, light and nutrients. Apply a weed killer such as Resolva Pro Weed Killer which delivers quick results, even on tough weeds, so they don’t come back!
GREEN UP YOUR LAWNS
Keep your lawn looking fantastic all summer by applying Vitax Organic Lawn Feed. It will condition and feed for a greener, stronger and healthier lawn without the risk of scorching. Remember to keep your lawns well watered during hot weather.
CONTROL THOSE PESTS
Keep an eye out for slugs, aphids, vine weevil and any other pests that may cause damage to your plants! Slugs will attack young plants so invest in a pest control such as Vitax Slug Gone to ensure your plants are protected.
SOW HARDY ANNUALS
You still have time to sow hardy annuals outdoors where you want them to grow. Our team recommend Knapweed, Nasturtium, Aquilegia, Coreopsis and annual Chrysanthemums!
GET MOWING
It’s important to mow your lawn frequently during this month – we recommend weekly if possible. Keep blades on your lawn mower properly adjusted and sharpened and don’t mow your lawn too short as this will cause the grass to weaken!
