The team at Pennine Garden Centre celebrated the reopening of our site, the former Dobbies Garden Centre Pennine, by donating plants to a local primary school.

The team at Pennine were approached by Mrs Pogson, Forest School Leader, who looks after the garden area and beekeeping club at neighbouring Highburton CE First Academy.

She said: “We were delighted to learn that Pennine had new owners and was reopening. We approached them as we wanted to create raised beds, plants ‘seeds to feed’ to sell in our school shop, and wildflowers for around school. We are very grateful for their generous donation and look forward to sharing pictures of what we’ve grown with the team at Pennine Garden Centre.”

Lisa Hessell, Pennine’s centre manager said: “We are a family-friendly, community-focussed garden centre, and we’re delighted to support children’s learning and to help foster a love of gardening at an early age.

“We donated tools, gloves, bedding plants, vegetable and flower seeds. It was lovely to see the children choosing bedding plants to match the colours of the school’s rainbow logo that represent the school values of Trust, Unique, Independent, Grateful, Honest, Helpful and Kind. They plan to reproduce the logo using bedding plants at the front of the school.”

Highburton C.E First Academy’s vision is to cultivate a vibrant learning community where every child is valued and empowered to flourish. Its motto is ‘Every person is a rainbow waiting to shine.’
